Most of the territory is devoid of vegetation. This leads to water shortage and soil erosion by digging deep gullies or washing away fertile soil elements. This is why it is important to plant trees in these areas, in order to fix the soil thanks to the roots and create a new layer of fertile soil with the contribution of organic matter from the trees. The choice of native species ensures the longevity of plantations and fruit trees will provide additional income to producers, while diversifying their diet. Among the rural indigenous communities in extreme poverty in the region, more than 500 families have already been involved.
